Boa Vista Island, Cape Verde
Boa Vista is the third largest island in Cape Verde and was discovered by Portuguese navigators in 1460. Its name ("Boa Vista") was inspired by the explorers' first impression upon seeing the landscape. During the 17th and 18th centuries, the island prospered from salt mining, fishing, and maritime trade. The capital, Sal Rei, still bears traces of that era, with ruins of the old fortress of the Duke of Braganza and colorful colonial houses.

First time in Boa Vista?
Boa Vista is a safe and authentic natural paradise. There are no dangerous animals—only rare birds, whales, and sea turtles that enchant visitors. Discover deserted beaches like Santa Monica, the Varandinha caves, and the dunes of the Viana Desert, or relax in Chaves Bay. In Sal-Rei, you can stroll, shop for souvenirs, or enjoy water sports. Rent a car and explore the island with peace of mind: there's mobile and 4G coverage almost everywhere.

Climate
The sun shines 350 days a year in Boa Vista. On average, temperatures can always be expected between 25 and 30°C, accompanied by a constant breeze. From December to April, the wind tends to be stronger and can bring cooler weather—so it's advisable to bring a light jacket for the evenings.
Starting in May, nights and early mornings become a little cooler. During the rainy season, nighttime temperatures generally barely drop. The official rainy season runs from August to October; however, it usually rains only a few days during this period. When it does rain, it's usually heavy, quick showers that bring some relief, but soon after, the temperature rises again.
From July onwards, the sky may become a little cloudier — but the weather remains very warm and pleasant.
